Hi All,

Looking for some info. on Car Hire.

A person I know needs to hire for a car for month and has been quoted @ £147P/W.

Can anyone recommend something better or does this seem like a good offer

That sounds about right. With insurance included it is probably even quite good.

Has anyone ever hired a car in or outside of Ireland, that was a accident waiting to happen.

I seen a report on the TV about some dodgy rental companies in the UK.

One such company hired out a van to a woman that had dodgy electrics. It ended up catching fire. Now if she had of crashed into another vechile, ( because of the dodgy electric ) she would be in the wrong and would have had to claim on her own insurance. The rental comany are in the clear because you are suppose to look over the vechile before taking it.

Is it the same over here??

I remember seeing that program too Phil. What a state the rental cars were.

An undercover reporter went in with a hidden camera and rented one out. They then had an AA engineer check it out on ramps. Needless to say it was a complete death trap.

However the company was in the clear because of a technicality. Somewhere buried in the rental agreement, which was signed by the customer, was a section saying that the car had being checked over by the customer and that it was road worthy and safe. What a scam!

You guys wont believe this but it's 100% true.

A friend of mine went away with his wife to somewhere like Greece/Corfu/.........wherever I cant remember now........it was about 4 years ago.

Anyway he'd booked a Rover Convertible, which he assumed was a 220 cabrio. When he got there it turned out to be a Rover 214 with the roof cut off, complete with sharp edges and obviously no hood !!

He laughed at first and drove off , then about 5 minutes later realised it could be dangerous ( he knows ZERO about cars OR driving) so they swopped it for a Punto cabrio !!!

What a cheek ehh !!!

LOL :D

.............oh yeah I remember more now. The island was some small relatively unknown place, zero tourist facilities, and the guy running the car rental agency was also the local Police chief!!
