Hi all,
I hope you can help. I was just wondering about a few things when it comes to getting my car serviced.
I have a '97 Bravo 1.4 12v with about 50k on the clock. Providing there is nothing too serious wrong with the car how much should a full service cost me?
Having paid that money, what exactly have I gotten for it? Do they check everything or is it just a quick going over? This may seem a bit of a silly qiestion but how do I know they are not taking the piss? i.e. overcharging me or claiming they have carried out a certain piece of work but haven't etc....

Now for a few more specific questions:
1.) I think a bearing might be gone from the front right wheel (I can hear a repetitive noise at slow speeds). How much might that cost to get fixed? i presume if I don't get it fixed it could do some serious damage or eventually sieze?? would this be spotted in a service?
2.) At a certain rev (between 2 and 3 thousand) I can sometimes hear a squealing noise. The best way to recreate it is when using a gear as a brake (e.g. when coming down from the mountains). I remeber my ma's old mazda 323 (with the leaky windscreen) made a noise quite similar to it, but that was constant. I think it was the water pump! Am I right? What else might it be? How much would that cost to get fixed? and finally would a service spot that?

Thanks, I hope you can answer all those questions ;)
Cheers

Littlefitzer, regarding the servicing aspect, did you know that Fiat/Alfa recently reduced their parts prices by up to 25%?

If you haven’t already had your car serviced, then you could always phone around a couple of the main Fiat dealers. Talk to the service manager and inquire if they have passed on the reductions to their servicing prices, getting details of the actual reductions they have made. You can then compare like with like between different dealers.

You can read about the reductions here (http://www.eforecourt.com/body.htm?pid=164&catagory=general)

Hope this helps.

Oh yeah, remember that labour costs probably makes up the majority of the costs of a routine service, so don’t expect the overall service costs to come down by 25%!
