The topic of car insurance is with us again.

Just got a couple of quotes today.

98 BMW 320i 6 years no claims bonus, but under 30

First Call Direct = £1282 up front or £1385 over 10 months

Premier Direct = £ 1102

One Direct £1100.67 up front or £1170 over 10 months

Insure.ie £1524

Eagle Star £1584

or wait for it

PMPA £2065 :eek:

I went for One Direct

What a difference in prices: £1100.67 - £2065

Are you sure you have a 60% ncb? Or is it that you have been driving for 6 years without making a claim? IMHO, you might only have a 40% ncb in their eyes.

I say this because my brother, 29, insures his 95 318i for a shade over 800 quid with Hibernain/Royal Sun Alliance. When he rang up about his ncb (original quote 1250) he was told that although he may have x years claim free driving it was not their policy to award anyone under 30 an ncb higher than 40%. He threatened to take his business elsewhere and they gave in an awarded him a 60% ncb (i.e. the max) hence the lower quote, but he had to fight for it.

Moral of the story: never assume your opinion of your ncb matches exactly to their opinion of your ncb. You do not necessarily get a 10% discount for every year of driving.
