This happen to anyone?

Last night, I had my Hyundai Coupe stolen from outside my house in Clonsilla. They broke into the house, took the keys and the car.

Anyone know what's the chances of getting it back in one piece? It sounds to me like it was 'stolen-to-order', but if anyone has any ideas if (or where!) it might turn up, I'd appreciate any assistance.

Cheers

Sorry to hear your bad news Fergerino!

Considering the fairly robust engine immobiliser systems on modern cars these days, getting your hands on the car keys is about the only way to steal a new car, unless you are a real professional that knows you way around the immobiliser.

I've heard of houses being broken into before, but only for really high performance cars, like the Subaru Impreza WRX or say a high performance BMW 3-series. Not meaning to belittle the Hyundai Coupe, but its not exactly a super performance car in the same league as these cars.

Did the Gardai have any interesting hunches Fergerino??

Hi Fergerino and welcome to the forum.

Were you in the house when the theif broke in. As Whippy said in the post above, Its normally Impreza that brings strangers into your house late at night. ( whether your in or not )

The Garda have said that alot of the time people leave their car keys on the hall table which makes the robbery that little bit easier, but stops the thief from coming up to your bedroom and demanding your cars keys from you.

Cheers guys,

I'd have to agree that it seems unusual for someone to go to the lengths of breaking into the house for a car that, as you say, is not exactly a WRX!
That was a good guess, actually - the keys were on the hall table. I guess I'm a little wiser now. Hopehully anybody else who reads this will learn from my mistake!

Yeah, the new craze is that the theif puts a hook and a long pole.

With this he/she is able to put the long pole through your letterbox and pick your keys straight of your hall table.

Clever or what!!!

So as BrianS would say.. "Be careful out there";)

I say " Take Care Out There" but its nice to know that you pay some attention..... :p

Fergerino, I'll send you a mail.....maybe you need that old Colt parked in front again to distract them from the Coupe.

Yeah, I should have bought that old Colt from you. I could have parked it across the drive-way to block anyone taking my Coupe!

Neat security idea, huh?

Yeah, I actually saw that being demonstrated on TV. Its a very easy way for a car thief to make off with your car without actually breaking an entry. It really is a clever way of taking a car.

I'd imagine that if a car were taken in this way, then the Insurance company would use it to reduce the payout on the insurance claim, as all due care wasn't taken to protect the car.

Now, back to practising my fly fishing skills..... ;)
