Just wondering if anyone has ever applied Scotchguard to their car seats?
How effective is it at keeping stains off the seat material? - no smart comments please! ;)
Is this a job that can be done easily yourself? Like is it just a question of buying a spray can of Scotchguard for a few pounds and applying it to the seats?

Hi Whiplash
Scotchguard would give very temporary protection. Its very superficial and rubs off after a while. What sort of protection are you thinking of? Spills and that sort of thing, I suppose? It could help in that situation - especially if you have kids in the car!

Yes Brian, spills like milk, fruit juice, ice-cream etc. And stains like chocolate – any quick tips for chocolate removal?

Well it depends how much chocolate you have on there. If its on fabric, take the mildest way first. Scrape the excess off with your fingernail or something dull like that. Next dab hot water on and then dab/wipe off with a clean cloth. Do that a little bit and that should take care of the majority. If there's anything left try a mild detergent solution - dab on and blot off.
If you have serious chocolate stains, apply the detergent solution and dab off. Then use a vinegar solution, dabbing and blotting, then detergent again, then finish up with plain water, all the while dabbing and blotting off.
Chocolate can be a tedious one because there are oils, colourings, milk etc. If its bad, try surrounding the stain with masking tape first. That helps prevent the stain from running into the fabric.
How does that sound?
